Trying to participate in an Ash Wednesday service without missing out on school or work can be a struggle, no matter your denomination.
Several Episcopal Churches in the City of Buffalo are hosting “Ashes to Go” at several locations where people can essentially enter the church’s parking lot and receive ashes from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. on the way to school or work.
No churches in Genesee County* are hosting a similar type of service, but some are offering more accommodating times. For example, Ascension Parish at 15 Sumner Street is holding services at 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
A representative for St. Francis of Assisi in Corfu said the church used to do something similar, but that the new pastor prefers a traditional, formal service for Ash Wednesday. They are hosting services at noon and 7 p.m.
St. James Episcopal in Batavia also considered something similar to those Buffalo Churches, but it ended up being a manpower issue.
Make sure to check with your local church about getting ashes as tomorrow is the first day of Lent.
