A Byron man is facing a felony burglary charge.
Jeffrey Leaton, 22, of Caswell Road, is accused of breaking into a home on Griswold Road in LeRoy. Genesee County sheriff’s deputies say Leaton was after jewelry.
Chief Deputy Jerome Brewster of the Sheriff’s Office says, via our news partner The Batavian, that Leaton was caught in the act at the Griswold Road home after a person reported suspicious activity. Brewster also said Leaton is a possible suspect in other burglaries.
Leaton was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff in lieu of $20,000 bail. He is due in court Feb. 15 for a preliminary hearing.
Chief Deputy Brewster confirms to WBTA that Leaton was caught in the act in the Griswold Rd. break-in.
Chief Deputy Brewster also says Leaton is a possible suspect in six Genesee County burglaries because the method of operation in the January break-ins in Byron, Bergen and Stafford can be traced to Leaton. Leaton has not been charged with anything else is not believed to be responsible for burglaries in Oakfield and Elba.
