Adults currently working toward earning their GED are being urged to finish in 2013 because changes to the test will be enacted on the first of the upcoming new year.

Developers of the high school equivalency diploma will make major changes to the test including moving it from paper and pencil to computer, as well as "aligning it with the new Common Core curricula adopted by most states to increase college and career readiness," according to the Associated Press.

The GED requires five tests that can be completed separately, so getting scores by Dec. 31 will avoid problems that could arise when the new test is implemented.
