The Batavia girls basketball team reached the school’s very first sectional title game this year, but were unfortunately overmatched last night against Waterloo and went on to lose 52-21 in the class B1 final.
The Blue Devils, who scored just two baskets by halftime, finish the season at 16-5. Despite a strong third quarter, Batavia struggled to keep up with Waterloo’s size and defense.
Freshman Tiara Filbert led the way with 12 points and 7 rebounds. She and Madison McCulley were named to the all-tournament team.
The loss means Notre Dame is the last remaining local girls’ team in the postseason. They take on Romulus out of SenecaCounty tonight looking for a sectional title following a thrilling upset win over reigning state champion Elba.
Tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Letchworth and you can following the game live here on AM 1490 WBTA and WBTAi.com.
