The Batavia Blue Devils are moving on to the state tournament following a 65-51 win over Hornell yesterday at Blue Cross Arena.

“Our team handles pressure very well and we stuck together as a team," Senior Jalen Smith said. "We played hard, kept our confidence, and we all stuck together.”

Justin Washington and Smith scored 19 of their team’s 23 fourth quarter points to help the Blue Devils pull ahead for good.

The Blue Devils will face 21-1 Olean on Saturday at 4:30 from Blue Cross Arena in the Far West Regional final. Coach Buddy Brasky and Smith say they’re prepared for a tough opponent.

“They’re just a solid, solid team,” Brasky said. “They’re No. 1 in the state – you know they’re good.”

“Oh, I’m ready, we’re ready, we’re all ready," Smith said. "We’ve been playing, we’ve been practicing. This week of practice should help out a lot.”

That game will be broadcast live right here on AM 1490 WBTA and online at With a win, the Blue Devils move on to the state semifinal in Glens Falls.
