Fire this morning destroys a barn converted into living space on Broadway Road in Bethany.
Flames ripped through the barn owned by Brendan Carney.
He says he recently converted part of the barn into a recreation room for his family:
"We had it all redone as a recreational room. We spent the Holidays in there. I had dry walled and insulated, new cabinets and countertops. It was nice."
The first alarm game in around 3:30 this morning.
Bethany Second Assistant Chief John Szymkowiak as first on the scene:
"When we arrived the barn was fully engulfed. Nothing but the outer structure was left. We ran into a lack of water as susual out here in the country."
There were no injuries.
A passing truck driver alerted the family to the fire in their barn.
The unemployment rate in the Buffalo-Niagara region rose to nine-point-six percent in January, which is the highest level in two decades. The report comes just a week after a different report indicated that the region had added 35-hundred jobs over the last year.
The unemployment rate for Genesee County shot up 1.3 percent from December to January.
The Buffalo Bills are in the market for a new starting quarterback. The Bills released Ryan Fitzpatrick Tuesday following four seasons with the team.
The Bills finished last season with a disappointing 6-and-10 record.
Governor Cuomo says minimum wage talks are ongoing in Albany. Cuomo says he's still pushing for a minimum wage increase in the budget and is hopeful the Senate will come around on the issue.
