The theft of service charge against Robert Hilchey of Oakfield has been dropped, according to our news partner, The Batavian.

The 42-year veteran of the Oakfield Volunteer Fire Department was accused earlier this month of illegally installing a water line to get access to water before the meter.

The fire department itself asked that the charge be dropped after going through previous meeting minutes and realizing that they did agree to minor plumbing changes and had made a mistake.
