The jobless rate in Genesee County is up.

According to the state labor department, between Dec. 2012 and January 2013, the county lost 3,600 non-farm jobs. The unemployment rate also climbed to 9.5 percent, up from 9.4 a month ago and 8.2 a year ago.

Genesee County’s unemployment rate is still better than our neighbors: Livingston County: 10.4 percent; Orleans: 12.4; and Wyoming: 11.2.

Unemployment in the state has increased from 9.1 to 9.4 over the last year, while the national rate went down three-tenths of a percent to 8.5 over the same period.
