State Police have arrested a Perry man who they say was in possession of a Burmese Python.

Darrell Alan Boyd, 39, of 65 South Main Street, was arrested for illegal possession of a Burmese Python -- a violation of New York State’s Environmental Conservation Law. Boyd was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Village of Perry Court May 7.

The dangerous constrictor snake was removed from Boyd’s resident and secured by the Department of Environmental Conservation Bureau of Wildlife in Buffalo pending disposition of the case.

Village of Perry Police and the DEC assisted in the investigation. Contact the DEC to report similar issues.

Pictured: not the Burmese python in this case, but a visual reminder that Burmese pythons are one of the largest snakes in the world.

Is this is still only a violation and not a felony yet? I know the bill was presented but have not heard about the results of any voting.
