A structure fire at 33 Ross Street -- which filled Downtown Batavia with the smell of smoke -- is now under control, according to our Dan Fischer who is at the scene.
Fire broke out at about 4:30 this afternoon at the stately, old, believed-to-be single-family home and black smoke rose from the structure. At least one person was home at the time, but no injuries are reported.
Other fire companies from Elba and Alexander responded to assist. The investigation is underway, but the fire is believed to have originated in the basement.
