Rescue crews in Boston are on the scene of at least two explosions that ripped through crowds in Downtown Boston. Fox News reports at least three people are dead.  

Witnesses describe seeing a huge cloud of smoke billowing into the air near the Boston Marathon finish line. Authorities have evacuated the area and say the section of Boylston Street is still considered a danger zone.

UPDATE (4:12): At least two people are now confirmed dead following explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.  Boston Police are also reporting nearly two dozen victims are hurt. The explosions turned the scene into mass carnage.

UPDATE (4:45): Major cities are ramping up security. New York City and San Francisco put their police on heightened alert. Officials in Washington, DC tell NBC News security is being increased on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House.
