The SUNY Geneseo crew team is OK after their boat overturned on Conesus Lake this morning.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call just before 7 am. The team was practicing when the water conditions worsened and they started to head back to the base at Long Point Park in Geneseo. On the way back, the rowing shell began to take on water and eventually submerged.
Coach Jason Rich handled the incident before authorities arrived. He made sure the boat was turned upside down so the team members could hold on and get out of the water as much as possible.
All members were treated and released at the scene. They were in the water for about 15 minutes.
The Livingston County’s Sheriff’s Office is taking the opportunity to say, as we begin another boating season, that everyone needs to be certain they are prepared for such incidents when going on the water.
