The head coach of GCC’s softball team has been arrested on felony charges accusing her of double dipping her state employers.
Renee Smith, 28, is a recreational therapist for the State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.
The Democrat and Chonicle was first to report. The legal case alleges that Smith filed false time cards claiming to be working for the state while actually putting in hours with the softball team.
The inspector general said at one time Smith said she was on the clock for her full-time job with the state when she was in fact traveling to Myrtle Beach with the GCC softball team.
The state claims Smith bilked the state out of $1,000 in false payments.
UPDATE (4/25): GCC spokesperson Richard Ensmans says Smith informed the college of her resignation Wednesday night.
