A 19-year-old whom Judge Robert Noonan deemed a “one-man crime spree on our community” will spend the next 10 years in state prison.

Francis Smith, formerly of South Main Street, Batavia, was sentenced in County Court today to two consecutive determinate five-year sentences plus three-years post-release supervision. He pleaded guilty April 2 to two felony counts of second-degree attempted burglary. He faced a maximum of 14 years in prison.

Smith was arrested by Batavia Police after he was caught in the act of a burglary on Washington Avenue New Years Day. He was then indicted on two occasions since for his involvement in a string of burglaries in the South Pearl Street area.

A woman who Smith burglarized three times spoke at sentencing about how his actions had violated her security in her own home.
