If you want to rent a pavilion at a City of Batavia park this summer, there will be several things to keep in mind. City Council approved new rules at their Business Meeting Monday night by a vote of 7 to 1.
First, residents must complete a permit application for “screening purposes” and also pay a $25 fee.
Ward 6 councilwoman Rosemary Christian was the only “no” vote.
“I disagree with the age limit because we have a lot of young students that are 18, 19, 20 years old that are very responsible," she said. "If they want to rent the facility, they can’t because they have to be 21 which is absolutely ridiculous because now we’re penalizing all kids.”
Christian said she also did not like there were no guidelines for proper disposal of hot ashes from grills.
City of Batavia parks open May 15 and run through Oct. 1 from 7 a.m. to dusk. You can see the full rules and procedures list here and here.
