So far it has been a chilly Memorial Day week-end in Western New York. Friday’s high was only 52 and yesterday the mercury zoomed to 58 degrees. The low both Friday and Saturday was around 40. As a result both days were ten or more degrees below normal for May 24th and 25th…but the weather is expected to get warmer today and even warmer tomorrow on the holiday. The high today is expected to be 63 degrees and tomorrow 69 with sunshine both days.
Monday marks the official observance of Memorial Day. It is a federal holiday and therefore all schools, banks and government offices will be closed and there will be no mail delivery.
There will be a number of parades and Memorial Day observances in Genesee County.
The Batavia parade kicks off a 10am from Eastown Plaza and moves west along Main Street to Summit Street. There will also be parades in Alexander, Bergen, Byron, Corfu, Oakfield, Pavilion and LeRoy.
A full schedule of Memorial Day Ceremonies will begin at 7AM at the Genesee County Park and continue through noon with a ceremony at the Hansen Brothers Grave in Grandview Cemetery.
We have a complete list of parades and ceremonies on the local new page of our website, wbtai.com. It is labeled “Memorial Day Parades and Observances Listed.”
