The Genesee County Fair gets underway today at the fairgrounds on East Main Street Road in Batavia. The fair's five day run will feature Four-H demonstrations, a parade, tractor pull, a demolition derby and more. Entry to the fair is $5 a carload. This is the 174th annual Genesee County Fair.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued a heat advisory for the entire state.
Cuomo is urging New Yorkers to take precautions for a week of blistering heat.
The governor is also urging energy conservation to avoid power outages.
New York is one of nine states under a heat advisory.

A Stafford woman has been sentenced to five years probation on a felony count of welfare fraud.
26-year-old Stacy Patterson was accused of illegally receiving $6,184 of social services benefits by failing to report her husband’s income.
As part of her sentence, Patterson will be disqualified receiving food stamp benefits and will be required to pay back the benefits she received.
A Batavia man already indicted on burglary charges is facing one more.
28-year-old Samuel Malone of Walnut Street is charged with second-degree burglary.
This latest charge dates back to 2008.
Malone is accused of breaking into a home on West Main Street and stealing a drum set.
Malone’s DNA profile was indicted in December in connection to other burglaries in the city just as the statute of limitations was running out.
United Airlines is planning to lay off most of its staff at Greater Rochester International Airport. The airline has informed state labor officials that it plans to outsource customer service and ramp operations to a private vendor. A total of 40 positions are being cut at the airport by October.
