Genesee County’s DWI arrest rate has risen 11-percent.
The finding comes in the complete county crime data, which has been completed for 2009.
County Sheriff’s Deputies made 240 arrests for DWI last year, compared to only 217 in 2008.
County Undersheriff Bill Sheron says the uptick is probably due to increased DWI checkpoints, especially in cooperation with Corfu Police. He said the checkpoints were made to coincide with concerts at Darien Lake which would drive up the number of DWI arrests.
Genesee County Democrats have announced their line of endorsements in the race for legislature.
Democratic Committee Chairwoman Lorie Longhany says Democrats support Chris Barons to run against incumbent Republican Steve Hawley for State Assembly. Marc Coppola received their nod to challenge Mike Ranzenhofer for State Senate.
Governor Paterson says lawmakers shouldn't be threatening to shut the government down. In recent days, legislative leaders have said they'd be willing to block Governor Paterson's emergency spending bills filled with spending cuts, even if it leads to a government shutdown.
The governor says lawmakers could end his emergency bills by simply voting and passing his proposed spending plan.
