A New York yogurt company has been chosen for the USDA Greek yogurt pilot program, but it isn’t one located in Genesee County.

Chobani, headquartered near Oneonta, will be served in school lunches to students in New York, Idaho, Arizona and Tennessee.

Politicians have been pushing for a New York-based yogurt company to participate in the federal school lunch program because of its high-protein content. They also argue that it will strengthen the state’s dairy industry.

The Greek yogurt program begins this school year.
