The Village of Attica is receiving assistance for its investment in a new ambulance.

Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer today announced a $160,000 federal loan and grant combination from USDA Rural Development Funding.

It will replace an eight-to-10-year-old model that had some problems. Mayor Chris Van Son says it maintains a valuable service to the community.

“Our ambulance serves both the Village of Attica and the Town of Attica, so it’s a huge service because it’s all volunteer," he said. "Otherwise, residents would have to rely on an ambulance service coming out of Batavia or Warsaw if they needed some service. Our ambulance has been around for a long, long time and it’s a valuable service to the village.”

The senators say it will allow first responders to carry out their duties more efficiently and effectively in emergencies. They say it will help the Wyoming County residents maintain their quality of life.
