Fire has extensively damaged several businesses in Darien.
Flames of unknown origin erupted inside the Erie Contractors-Phoenix Development building on Genesee Street in Darien near the Erie County line.
The building also housed BMC Drilling. Authorities are attempting to learn if there were other businesses in the building.
Route 33 at the fire scene is now open, although traffic is slowed to one lane.

Genesee County Fire Coordinator Tim Yeager talked with WBTA News at the scene:

One volunteer firemen suffered an ankle injury and was taken to UMMC.
A total of 12 fire companies responded.
The cause is under investigation.

Yaager says there were some potentially dangerous chemicals on the site, but the Department of Environmental Conservation deemed the amounts too small to be of any danger to the surrounding area.
