Selby Davis, director and chef of Grace’s Kitchen, is the 45th LeRoyan of the Year. She was chosen because her selfless volunteer efforts have helped feed and nourish the LeRoy community.
Grace’s Kitchen -- which has been giving out free, quality meals since early 2012 -- served over 4,800 people in its first year. Davis plans each meal and oversees its preparation.
“I would say LeRoy doesn’t always appear as it is, that there is more need in LeRoy than people realize,” she said. “The wonderful thing about LeRoy is that it has an absolute wellspring of volunteers who are willing to jump forward to the cause if need be.”
Davis has been the president, vice president and board secretary for the LeRoy Christian Community Project, as well as serving on the boards of the Ronald McDonald House and the Children’s Home Association and the list of her community involvement goes on and on.
“I think that it’s just been a way of life for me,” she said. “My parents modeled that for me when I was growing up; they were always volunteering and doing things for others, so it was just something I learned from being part of it.”
She will be honored Oct. 12 at the American Legion Botts Fiorito Post 576.
