Genesee County may need to exceed New York State's 4-percent property tax cap in order to balance next year’s county budget.
County Manager Jay Gsell today released his 2014 Proposed Budget Recommendation (read here). It calls for a county tax rate of $10.11 per thousand -- up $0.22 from last year’s tax rate.
The manager’s proposed budget now goes before the entire legislature. It has the power to amend the spending plan and could increase or decrease the manager’s proposed budget.
The final county budget must be adopted by Dec. 20.
