It is Veterans Day, an official federal Holiday.

It is the day recognized as the end of the war to end all wars.
Sadly, that would not be the case.
Veterans Day traces it beginning to the end of hostilities in Europe in World War I.
An armistice between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day or the 11th month.
It is unlike other federal holidays that are observed on Monday.
By law, Veterans Day will always be observed on November 11th… regardless of the day of the week. This year it just happens to fall on a Monday.
All schools, banks, governments buildings are closed today and there will be no mail delivery.
Most retail stores: wide open.
There are a number of Veterans Day observances in the area. For a list click HERE.

A Genesee County Grand Jury has now handed up an 11 count indictment against accused child molester Sean Vickers of Geneva.
The indictment follows a continuing investigation into the sexual abuse of several children allegedly by Vickers.
Authorities say the cases began in the 1990’s and continued into this year.
The most recent indictment involves the sexual abuse of four children over a 12 year period in the city of Batavia.
The 44-year-old Vickers continues to be held in the Genesee County jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery that happened over the weekend at the Sugar Creek Store on Route 33 in Bergen.
Deputies say a white male entered the store and demanded cash from the clerk. He indicted he had a weapon although none was displayed. The crook fled with the cash in the register.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office.

Fire over the weekend destroyed a century old home in Avon.
Livingston County authorities tell WBTA the large farm house on North Avon Rd. went up in flames Saturday night.
The home was converted into three apartments. Everyone safely escaped.

Due to the holiday, the Batavia City Council is moving their regular meeting to tomorrow night. Council will hold a business meeting at 7p.m. tomorrow in City Hall.
