It is going to be a very strange weather day today. It will be warm with a forecast high of 61 degrees and a couple of showers. The national weather service has issued a high wind warning for early tonight through early Monday afternoon. Winds will be out of the southwest from 20 to 30 miles per hour, but will gust to 60 miles per hour. There’s a chance of rain today with a thunder storm possible early this evening. Tonight’s low will be 50….Temperatures will be decreasing on Monday with a low Monday night of 31
Police in Cortland, New York, arrested dozens of people yesterday when some violence broke out following a football game. Officers say big crowds ended up in the city's streets, after SUNY Cortland defeated Ithaca College. The two teams are said to be part of a longstanding rivalry. Disorderly crowds caused some violence, and several injuries were reported. One fan said beer cans were being thrown in the air. There were fans also throwing tables, chair, and teddy bears and anything that you could name.
One person has been reported injured in a a one vehicle accident at Herkimer and Warner Roads in the Town of Darien. Reports from the scene indicated the full size Chevy Suburban left the road and became wedged between two trees about 30 feet off the road. The driver was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.
Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a Basom man on numerous charges following a property damage accident on Lewiston Road in Basom. 57 year old Thomas Carlo of Lewiston Road in Basom was charged with DWI, unlawful possession of Marijuana and leaving the scene of an accident. He’ll be arraigned in Alabama Town Court on December 3rd.
25 year old Mathew Florian of the Slusser Road in Batavia was arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies on a warrant for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. He was arrested when stopped by state police for a traffic violation on Route 5 in the Town of Batavia. An investigation revealed that Florian had an outstanding warrant against him. He’s in jail with bail set at 200 dollars.
Another accident has led to the arrest of the driver. 46 year old Michael Vanburen of Alexander Road in Batavia was arrested after the car while backing out of his driveway traveled across the road and into a ditch. He was charged with Unlawful possession of Marijuana, consumption of alcohol in a vehicle and with unsafe backing. He’ll answer the charges in Batavia Town Court on December 5th.
A retirement party was held last night for Elba’s long time girl’s basketball coach Tom Nowak, who retired after last season. Nowak says he is very grateful for the event. And Tom Nowak says the highlight of his career was winning the Girl’s Basketball State Title in 2012. Nowak coached almost every sport in his 35 year career in Elba including 22 years as head football coach.
