Forget about Black Friday madness and instead shop in Downtown Batavia tomorrow.

That’s what local business owners are saying today as they prepare for Small Business Saturday – something that’s grown into a nationwide initiative.

It’s about supporting local businesses and keeping money in the local economy. Unlike the box stores that are opening earlier and earlier on Thanksgiving Day, Downtown Batavia businesses owners say shopping local is the way to go.

Dave Howe, co-owner of Charles Men’s Shop on East Main Street, Batavia, says shopping in Downtown Batavia is a preferable and unique experience because of “personal service, we recognize most of our customers, and know them by name. We tend to emphasize the quality and personal and professional service.”

Howe says small businesses see Thanksgiving as a day to be with friends and family, not compete for who-can-open-the-earliest.

Businesses in Downtown Batavia will be open for Small Business Saturday tomorrow with special savings.
