A 36-year-old Genesee County Jail inmate has died.

Wallace E. Urf, Jr. of Telephone Road, Pavilion, was pronounced dead yesterday morning at UMMC.

The Sheriff’s Office says that Mr. Urf collapsed at about 7 a.m. in his general housing unit at the Genesee County Jail. The report says corrections staff immediately responded to Mr. Urf and provided CPR until an ambulance arrived.

An hour later, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The jail notified the state Commission of Correction to begin an investigation of the cause and circumstances of the death which is required protocol.

The Sheriff’s Office says Mr. Urf had previous heart-related medical issues. The exact cause is unknown pending an autopsy.

The Sheriff’s Office says there is no sign of foul play.

Mr. Urf was incarcerated since Nov. 27 on a parole violation.
