A two-vehicle accident in Bergen spills thousands of gallons of liquid manure onto the road and hospitalized three people including two very young children.

The incident occurred Friday morning on Townline Road in Bergen near Buffalo Street. A 2005 Saturn driven by 27-year-old Samuel Smith of Townline Road, Bergen, and a Ford eight-wheel farm tractor hauling a triple-axle 7,000 gallon manure tanker were traveling eastbound. The accident report indicates Smith’s car did not reduce speed in time and drove directly into the back of the liquid manure tanker. The Saturn went under the tanker, sheered off a valve cover and caused of manure to empty from the tank.

There were two other occupants in Smith’s car: 3-year-old Hayden Smith and infant Liam Smith. All three were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by ambulance.

The driver of the farm tractor, Gary Herrmann, Jr. of Tower Hills Road, Byron, was not hurt.
Smith was ticketed.
