More than a half-dozen fire crews were on the scene of a Wyoming County fire for 10 hours.

Fire broke out at a barn at 3115 Route 78 in the Town of Wethersfield just south of Warsaw Friday evening.

A number of animals perished in the fire. The barn was a total loss and a large amount of hay was also destroyed.

The cause is still under investigation.

Authorities say cold temperatures caused fire hoses to freeze and very slippery road conditions hampered firefighters’ efforts at the scene and the three tanker fill sites.

One firefighter was transported to Wyoming County Community Hospital with smoke inhalation and another was treated at the scene for an arm injury.
