News release from the Genesee County Sheriff's Office:

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office announces the graduation of its new K-9, Destro, and his handler Deputy Christopher Erion, from the Niagara Regional Police Service K-9 Academy in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada on Tuesday, December 17, 2013. The approximate three-month course covered training in the areas of building and open area searches, obedience, tracking, drug detection, and handler protection.

In addition to Deputy Erion and K-9 Destro, K-9 units from the Niagara Regional Police Service, Niagara Parks Police, Town of Amherst Police and Hamilton Police Service also graduated and were certified.

“Donations from the public allowed us to purchase K-9 Destro and continue with this valuable program. We would like to thank all of those who donated,” said Sheriff Gary T. Maha.

Deputy Erion and his K-9 partner, Destro, will be assigned to the afternoon shift effective
December 23, 2013.
