Opposition to New York State’s Gun Safe Act was loudly heard yesterday as New York State gun owners gathered at gun clubs in the state to fire a single shot in protest. The shot occurred at noon in what was dubbed by the organizers as “The Shot Heard Round New York”. One such protest was held at the Northwoods Sportsman Club on Gulf Road in LeRoy. One of those in attendance was State Assembly Stephen Hawley. He told our news partner the Batavian that he thinks all the opposition was unexpected by many including that of the Governor. Hawley also says he has introduced legislation in the Assembly to overturn the “Safe Act”

For the first time in a while Genesee County is not under any weather watch, warning, or advisory. The flood watch which had been in effect for the past couple of days was cancelled as of four this morning. Today colder temperatures than yesterday are being forecast with a high only of 35. There is also a chance of some morning snow flurries then some sun and then frozen drizzle. Yesterday the temperature soared to 50 degrees, some 55 degrees higher than last Tuesday. The low yesterday was 33. We recorded two tenths of an inch of rain yesterday.

An Elba man was arrested on various drug charges early Saturday morning. Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the report of an incident at a residence on the Merriman Road in Byron.
Upon investigation it was learned that 18 year old Thomas Rose of Ford Road in Elba had in possession a number of illegal drug related items. He has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, Criminal use of drug paraphernalia, and Criminal possession of marijuana. Rose will appear in Byron Town Court on January 27th to answer the charges.

A minor traffic accident on Route 5 in Pembroke on Friday afternoon led to the arrest of 43 year old Stephen Getty of Gilbert Street in LeRoy. Getty’s car moved from the lane of travel unsafely and went into a ditch. Getty was charged with DWI, Drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on the highway and with an unsafe lane change.
He’ll be arraigned next month in Pembroke Town Court.

45 year old Douglas Brown of Main Street in Elba has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, Brown was found to be in possession of a billy club after sheriff’s deputies were called to the Automotive Corporation on Federal Drive in Batavia for the report of an irate truck driver making a delivery to the company. Brown will be arraigned next month in Batavia Town Court.

After an investigation, an arrest has been made in connection with an incident on December 28th on West Main Street in Batavia. 33 year old Bruce Brade of the Galloway Road in Batavia has been charged with identity theft and grand larceny. Brade allegedly used a fraudulently obtained debit card to make purchases over the internet. He was released under supervision of Genesee Justice.

Two separate shoplifting cases at the Batavia Wal-mart store have led to two arrests. 39 year old Tymekia Gaskin of Rochester and 38 year old Louis Wooden of Rochester were both charged with Petit Larceny. Both will be arraigned in Batavia Town Court on January 16th.

An auto accident on October 20th on Route 98 in Alexander has resulted in the arrest of 42 year old Ann Cox of Main Street in Attica.
She has been charged with Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, Driving while ability impaired by drugs, and an unsafe lane change.
