In the same conference call where he spoke about the farm bill, Congressman Collins echoed fellow Republicans’ sentiments about President Obama and tonight’s State of the Union Address.
“I have some concerns about what may come out tonight,” Collins said. “(The President’s) got a pen and a phone, and I’ll say what America needs are jobs and paychecks, not a pen and a phone. We need the president to work with Congress, not work around Congress.”
Obama is expected to announce during tonight's State of the Union address that he's signing an executive order to raise the minimum wage for new federal contractors to $10.10 an hour from the current $7.25.
Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner says President Obama will "run into a brick wall" by using his executive power and sidestepping Congress.
“House Republicans will continue to look closely at whether the president is faithfully executing the laws as he took an oath to do," he said.
The Ohio Republican added "were just not going to sit here and let the President trample all over us." Boehner made his remarks today after a meeting of House Republicans at the Capitol Hill Club.
