Washington, DC and much of the Northeast are closed as another major winter storm clamps down on the region. The nation's capital could get as much as ten inches of snow today. It's the same story for other big East Coast cities, from the eight inches forecast for Boston to more than a foot in New York.

Thousands of flights are canceled as the winter storm moves into the Northeast. Airline tracking website shows more than 44-hundred flights have been cancelled today, mostly in the South and East. Amtrak is suspending rail service in parts of he Northeast, South, and Mid-Atlantic.

Here in Genesee County it was a calm night with a big warmer temperatures compared to the night before. There was no snow.
The forecast is calling for a mostly cloudy day with a high of 30 degrees. Snow is in the forecast for Friday.

Starting at 830 this morning repair crews from the City of Batavia Water Department will begin repairing a water main on Chestnut Street near Jackson Street. This will close Chestnut Street and Law Street to through traffic and residents in the area may experience temporary water service interruption or discoloration of water.

A hit and run accident on Wednesday, February 5th on State Street near Fairmont Avenue in Batavia has the Batavia Police asking for help. A pedestrian was struck around 7:45 in the morning that day by a black two door sedan with a white license plate starting with the letter D and with two white individuals inside. Anyone with any information about the accident is asked to call the Batavia Police or contact the department through the city’s website, The pedestrian was taken to UMMC with non life threatening injuries.

A former Town of Batavia Justice and a Sergeant in the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department has died. 77 year old Joseph Filio Senior passed away Tuesday morning at Unity Hospital in Rochester. The Caledonia native served as Town of Batavia Justice for six years and also served with the US Army.

Coming to Darien Lake this summer will be daredevil high wire walker Nik Wallenda. It was announced yesterday that he and his family will perform twice daily in a 60 minute show at the Theme Park from June 23rd to September 1st. Wallenda walked across Niagara Falls on a high wire in June of 2012 which was views by thousands at the falls and millions internationally on television.

Two men are behind bars in Livingston County after been charged in connection with two burglaries in the town of York.. 18 year old John Bartles of Livonia and 20 year old Justin Forkner of Avon. They were arrested a short time after the report of the second burglary when they were stopped and found to be in possession of a suspicious amount of cooper tubing.

 Five years have now passed since Flight 3407 crashed in Clarence Center, but families of the victims say they will never forget.  Hundreds of people turned out for a memorial service and candlelight march to the scene of the crash last night.  This was the first remembrance of the crash where the victim's families allowed the general public to attend.  The crash of the Continental Connection flight killed 50 passengers and crew, with the cause determined to be pilot error linked to poor training. 

 A 15-year-old student at Niagara Falls High School is charged with phoning in bomb threats to his school and to Niagara Wheatfield High School.  Officials say  the teen is not being identified because of his juvenile status, and that Monday's threats were apparently a prank.  The threat was called in on a prepaid cell phone that a home health aide left at the Niagara Falls home where the juvenile lives, and he took it without permission.  The child is facing a felony count of falsely reporting an incident.

 Yahoo is being the go ahead to increase the size of their call center being built in Lockport.  The town planning board has approved a request to increase the building size by 19-thousand square feet, and an increase from 240 to 430 parking spaces.  When the project is complete, Yahoo will boast 271-thousand square feet of space in the Lockport Business Park and well over 200 employees.  Yahoo is receiving an estimated 245-million-dollars in tax breaks for locating and expanding in Lockport.
