An Illinois man is behind bars in Livingston County, accused of trying to rip off several Sears locations in Western New York.
Sheriff Thomas Dougherty says 21-year-old Ivan Walton Jr. of Sauk Village, Ill., used a fraudulent check with a phony name and company to scam the Geneseo store.
At additional locations in Batavia and Fredonia, Walton allegedly used the fraudulent identity and false Indiana ID card to successfully defraud Sears. Investigators also found that Walton was arrested in Michigan in October for the same scheme.
He’s charged with a felony count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument and Criminal Impersonation. Walton was sent to the Livingston County Jail on $3,000 bail.
He’s expected to face further charges in Genesee and Erie Counties.
Deputies say if you’ve been scammed by Walton, to call Deputy Joshua Monster at (585) 243-7100.
