A 12-year-old Livingston County boy is dead, struck by a car while playing outside of his home.
The accident happened yesterday afternoon on Route 63 in the Town of Sparta.
Witnesses said the boy was playing ball in a side yard when the ball rolled into the street.
When the youngster went to retrieve it, he was struck.
The boys name has not been released.
He attended Dansville Elementary School. His family moved to Livingston County two weeks ago.
Ralph Peterson, the embattled and often controversial mayor of Corfu, has resigned.
Peterson's resignation follows an eight-month long medical leave.
He and the Corfu Village Board have been at odds almost from the moment he took office.
Some board members had accused Peterson of interfering in the investigation of his friend, former Village Justice Robert Alexander. It was Alexander's daughter, Brandi Watts, who admitted stealing over $10,000 in village court funds.

A former Batavia man with a history of stealing from big box stores has now been indicted by a Genesee County Grand Jury on new charges.
50-year-old Steven Crandall of Rochester, has been indicted on felony counts of Burglary, Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.
Crandall is accused of entering a barn on South Street Road in the Town of Pavilion and taking property worth more than $13,000.
