This notice to motorists this morning. The Byron Road between Griswold Road and Walkers Corners Road in the town of Byron and Stafford is closed to traffic until further notice. A drainage culvert has collapsed and has undermined the roadway. The roadway is said to be a hazard to all traffic in its current condition. The county highway department will investigate the scene for long term repair options on Monday.
According to the Batavian a man and his two children were on a bike ride when the ground crumbled beneath them opening up a hole with a width of 15 to 20 feet. The four year old fell into the sink hole and was rescued by the father. The report states that the father had a difficult time climbing out of the sink hole as the sides were crumbling. There were no reported injured.
It will be a perfect Easter Sunday in the area. Temperatures this morning were in the mid 30’s as the sun rose on this Holy Christian Holiday. The forecast for today is for mostly sunny skies and warmer with a high of 66 degrees. The forecast doesn’t call for any rain.
Yesterday the high temperature was 52 and the low was 34 in the morning.
Those chilly temperatures didn’t deter about 300 children from participating in the annual Kiwanis Club of Batavia Easter Egg Hunt at Centennial Park. The event started at about 9:03 and was over in four minutes as the approximately two thousand Easter Eggs were quickly found.
An incident on the North Lake Road in the Town of Bergen in January of 2013 has resulted in the arrest of a Bergen Man. 51 year old John Robinson of the North Lake Road has been charged with second degree menacing. He allegedly pointed a shotgun at another person while the subject was looking through Robinson’s window. He’ll appear in Bergen Town Court on May 21st to answer to the charges.
43 year old Bernard Lee of Cato Street in Pavilion has been arrested on bench warrants charging him with criminal contempt and harassment. The original incitement occurred on March 21st at One
West Main Street in Batavia. He was arraigned and is in jail without bail for a return court date on April 30th.
Former Buffalo Bills Quarterback Jim Kelly returned to Buffalo on Saturday for Easter weekend. He also announced that he is staying home in Western New York. He will not return to New York City and instead will stay in Buffalo for cancer treatment.
Several fans came to the airport to greet Kelly and show their support. However Kelly was at a different part of the airport and missed some of the fans.
His wife Jill Kelly later posted a video of him on Instagram.
Jim Kelly in the video said, “Hey everybody I’m glad to be home back in Buffalo, sorry I missed some of you guys out there at the airport but I’m now here, thank you, God bless you, and I will be back.”
Legislation is in the works in Albany to cut down on motorists who drive through the EZ-Pass lanes without the EZ-pass Transponder. According to the proposal, drivers who get more than five toll violations within 18 moths could get their registration suspended. Karen Rae, Deputy Secretary to the Governor for Transportation says toll revenues provide vital support for the New York State’s transportation system. Over the past five years toll evaders in New York State have failed to pay a total of 150 million dollars in tolls.
