The CEO of Western Regional Off-Track Betting, Martin Basinait, has announced he is retiring after 29 years.
Basinait made the announcement in a letter handed out to OTB Board Members at a meeting this afternoon.
One of Basinait’s biggest accomplishments during his tenure was the revival of Batavia Downs – convincing OTB to buy the facility and bringing horse racing back to the track.
OTB Board Chairman Richard Siebert says he’ll miss Marty. Though the horse racing operates at a loss, Siebert says Batavia Downs is thriving – and will continue to do so under new leadership.
Basinait’s retirement is effective as of February 2011.
