A black granite monument to Genesee County’s war dead is now ready for dedication next month.
Crews installed the 21-ton, nine piece monument yesterday at Washington and Bank.
The monument replaces the former memorial that was displaced when UMMC added its new surgical wing. It bears the names of Genesee County servicemen and women who died in World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
The monumnet has taken four and half years of planning, fund rasing and construction.
It is constructed of polished black granite from India and sits on a foundation of 56,000 pounds of poured concrete.
The monument will be dedicated at 11am on May 17th.
