An Army Paratrooper, formerly of Batavia and most recently from Medina, died following a night jump at Fort Bragg, North Carolina
The Army is investigating the death of 21 year old Sergeant Shaina Schmigel.
The Army says Sgt. Schmigel was found unresponsive on Friday night following the jump.
Sgt. Schmigel enlisted in the Army four years ago following graduation from medina High School.
The OrleansHub.com reports Shaina spent most of her childhood in Batavia and moved to Medina about six years ago.
The Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral Chapel in Batavia will be handling arrangements.
A hiker falls to his death in Wyoming County.
Police say Stephen Wagner of Sheldon fell about 150 feet into a gorge after he lost his footing while hiking with a friend on Saturday evening.
Authorities say the man was already dead by time rescuers were able to reach him.
Fire destroys a commercial building in Pavilion.
Stubborn flames consumed the Heavenly Sweets Bakery and Deli on Route 63 yesterday afternoon.
No one was hurt.
The two-story building was declared a total loss.
An official cause has not been determined although authorities suspect an electrical problem may have started the fire in the attic.

40 year old Donald Ford of Oak Street, Batavia – he is facing charges of harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. Batavia Police say Ford allegedly threatened to harm another person in the presence of three young children.
Ford went to jail in lieu $2,500 bail.
26 year old Joseph Bennett of West State Street, Albion – he’s been arrested by Batavia Police for criminal possession of stolen property and parole violation. Bennett is being held in the county jail in lieu of $5,000.
23 year old Joey Evans of State St., Batavia – Joey is jailed in lieu of $2,500 bail for allegedly failing to comply with drug court and petty larceny.
