Republican Candidate for governor Rob Astorino’s campaign is accusing the man he’s challenging of being a tax cheat.
A representative for the Westchester County Executive today says “We are directly suggesting that Andrew Cuomo hid renovations to his home in order to evade the higher property taxes he would have to pay if those renovations had been properly permitted, as is required of other citizens.”
Astorino’s camp also accused Cuomo of not allowing an assessor into the home for a review of the extensive interior renovations to evade property taxes.
A recent re-assessment estimates the property valuation on the Hudson Valley home he shares with TV-chef Sandra Lee increased 29 percent to $1.2 million. That equals an $8,200 increase in property taxes to $36,500.
Lee, who did not obtain proper permits to make the renovations, bought the six-bedroom, five-bath home that she calls "Lily Pond" in 2008.
