A severe thunderstorm knocks out power to thousands in Orleans County and many remain without electricity Wednesday afternoon, as crews assess damage from fallen power lines.
The storm hit around 8 last night.
State Assemblyman Steve Hawley reports this morning that at the height of the storm 8,100 National Grid customers in Orleans County were without power.
Currently, National Grid is reporting about 1,800 customers without power, mostly by the Lake Ontario shoreline.
Hawley reports 25 to 30 utility poles came down in the storm, mostly in the Waterport area.
Genesee County received some significant rainfall but only scattered outages.
