Jury selection is due to begin today in the assault trial of 34-year-old Craig Lawson of Ontario.
Lawson is accused of hurling a single punch to the head of Jason McNeil during a Darien Lake concert last summer. The injury left McNeil in a coma for weeks.
Lawson is charged with second-degree assault.
The prosecution will have to prove that Lawson intended to seriously injure McNeil.
The Batavia man who admitted dragging a Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputy with his car will serve seven years in state prison.
37 year old Scott Kopper, a former EMT and volunteer fire fighter, was sentenced in county court yesterday on a charge of second degree assault.
Back on January 7, when Deputy Brian Thompson tried to arrest Kopper on a parole violation, the deputy’s arm became trapped in the window of Kopper’s car as he attempted to flee. The deputy was dragged 200 feet.
23 year old Brandon Scott of Darien remains in critical condition this morning with injuries suffered when his motorcycle struck a deer.
That accident occurred early yesterday on Pearl St. Road in the Town of Batavia.
Scott was flown by Mercy Flight to ECMC where he is in the intensive care unit this morning.
