Batavia Police are investigating an overnight burglary at a downtown business.

Det. Richard Schauf says the owner of the Enchanted Florist arrived this morning to find the door facing the Center Street parking lot smashed in.

He says it appears the suspect used a rock to break out a window pane.

“This person reached in, turned the lock, was able to open the door and entered,” he said. “It appears they would have left fairly quickly. It doesn’t look like they looked around very much. It appears to be a pointed kind of enter, take and leave (situation).”

He said they grabbed cash from the register and immediately left.

Det. Schauf said there are precautions against this kind of break-in residents and businesses can take.

“If they have glass in the door, make sure it’s double-keyed,” he said.
