News release from United Memorial Medical Center:

United Memorial Medical Center is pleased to announce that physician practice, Cardiology and Internal Medicine, has received the Echocardiography Accreditation by Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). United Memorial Cardiology and Internal Medicine has been granted a three-year term of accreditation in Echocardiography in the area of Adult Transthoracic, Adult Stress.

Early detection of life threatening heart disorders and other diseases is possible through the use of echocardiography procedures performed within hospitals, outpatient centers, and physician’s offices. Echocardiography, or echo, is a painless test that uses sound waves to create moving pictures of the heart. The pictures show the size and shape of the heart and how well the heart's chambers and valves are working. Echo can pinpoint areas of heart muscle that aren't contracting well because of poor blood flow or injury from a previous heart attack. Echo can detect possible blood clots inside the heart, fluid buildup in the pericardium (the sac around the heart), and problems with the aorta, the main artery that carrying oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the body.

IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indication that the facility has been carefully critiqued on all aspects of its operations considered relevant by medical experts in the field of echocardiography.

Accreditation by the IAC means that United Memorial Cardiology and Internal Medicine, United Memorial Medical Center has undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to be providing quality patient care, in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process including a detailed case study review.
