Volunteers serving on Batavia’s Centennial Committee are gearing up for a major party this New Year’s Eve.
Dec. 31 will mark 100 years that Batavia has been a city.
“It’s the 100-year celebration so we’re hoping people talk about it years from now. When they’re planning the 200-year celebration, they’ll reference everything that we did,” Krysia Major, chairperson of the city’s Centennial Committee, said.
A highlight of the New Year’s celebration will be a century soiree at city hall.
“The Century Party is a party up in City Hall where you can see the fireworks,” she said. “The fireworks are being displayed behind the city fire hall – which is another big highlight, the big fireworks display – and we’re going to have the ‘Dress the Decades’ party and it’s going to be a fun New Year’s event.”
There will be other activities on New Year’s Eve that will be free to the public, including the fireworks show.
