Assemblyman State Hawley is warning of a scam going around.

It’s called the “green Dot Moneypak” scam and affects NYSEG customers in Orleans and Wyoming Counties.

There are reports of someone calling customers, claiming to be from NYSEG and threatening with service cancellations unless they pay one of the cards. Once purchased, the scammer then uses the card.

Victims cannot get the money back if the thief has spent it, but visit moneypak.com/help if you think you’ve been victimized.

Call local police if you get a suspicious phone call and be sure a party is legitimate before giving any personal information.

There are similar complaints posted at www.callercenter.com and I think it's obvious. If I get a call like that, I'd just hang up and report it to warn others.
