National and state leaders are planning to convene in Manhattan on Sunday to discuss high speed rail in America.
Governor Paterson, Governer-elect Andrew Cuomo, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and National Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood are just a few of the big names who will get together. They plan to discuss the development of high-speed rail infrastructure and how to secure the federal funding needed to build it.
An 11-mile stretch of high-speed rail is currently in the works to be built in our area, between Byron and the Monroe County Town of Riga. The track will be rated for train speeds over 100 miles per hour – but according to staffers in Louise Slaughter’s office, it will not actually be connected to the main rails for the time being.
