Excessive speed is believed to have been the cause of a one-car accident yesterday morning on the Roanoak Road in the Town of Stafford. The son of the leader of a Western New York biker gang is on his way to federal prison for the next 18 months. That was the sentence handed down to 40-year-old Chad Koschuk of Alden for threatening a witness in his father's case. Prosecutors say Koschuk's father, 58-year-old Alex Koschtschuk, is the longtime president of the Chosen Few motorcycle gang, who along with 19 other members, was busted last year on charges ranging from racketeering to arson and assault. The younger Koschuk was convicted of threatening to sexually assault a man who accused his father of extortion. Prosecutors had asked for a sentence of between 41 and 51 months saying witnesses need the right to testify without fear of retaliation. The case against Koschuk's father and the rest of the bikers is pending trial.

An Indian-owned casino in the Catskills region of New York is one step closer to becoming reality. Governor Paterson announced Monday that he had reached a deal with the Stockbridge-Munsee tribe that clears a longstanding hurdle that will allow the tribe to proceed with development of a gaming facility in Sullivan County. The deal involved the tribe's land claim in the region. Paterson says the agreement will give the tribe 330 acres of land in Sullivan County with which to build the gaming and resort complex. The governor says the proposal will bring thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in investment to New York State.
