Today is a national holiday honoring the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. That means most government offices from the federal level down to the local level will be closed today. Public schools, financial markets and banks will all take the day off. There will be no regular mail service.
Those who admit to using illegal drugs should be barred from buying a gun. That's the view of Congressman Chuck Schumer.
Schumer said alleged Tucson shooter Jared Lee Loughner had admitted to military recruiters that he had used drugs on several occasions.
Schumer says if the military had notified the FBI immediately, Loughner's name would have been added to their database and he would have failed a mandatory background check before buying his gun.
Time Warner Cable and the Sinclair TV stations in Buffalo and Rochester have kissed and made up. The two companies reached an agreement over the weekend that will keep the signals of the Buffalo and Rochester Fox affiliated stations on Time Warner Cable.
Governor Andrew Cuomo is planning on rescinding raises given to the top brass of the State Police.
Cuomo will take away around $200,000 in salary increases that were approved last year. Last week Cuomo said that he was surprised by the raises in the face of 891 state worker layoffs and wanted to review them in the context of the state's budget.
