Two Orleans County Sheriff’s Deputies find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
Sergeant Dean Covis of Albion and Deputy Thomas Marano of Brockport were each charged with Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records.
The two are accused of working security for a private company while clocked in at the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office.  
Genesee County D-A Lawrence Friedman has been named a special prosecutor in the case. State Police at Batavia investigated.
Authorities say the pair pulled off the suspected double-dip for more than a year.

Some parts of western New York will be battered by high winds today. 
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Genesee and Orleans counties from 11 this morning until 11 tonight. 
Winds gusting to 50 miles-per-hour are expected as a cold front approaches, packing potentially severe thunderstorms.

The two men who were supervising a group of children when all of them were swept over the falls in Letchworth State Park, have been sentenced to probation. Two of the children died.
34 year old Tyler Jennings of Farmington and 32 year old Chad Staley of Rochester each were sentenced yesterday to five years’ probation. Both had pled guilty to a charge of Criminally Negligent Homicide.
Prosecutors said Jennings and Staley led the group to a restricted area just above the lower falls. All seven were swept over the falls and fell some 70 feet.
Two brothers from Brockport, Nine year old Dylan Giangregorio and his 6 year old brother, Preston, were killed.

Ride-sharing is coming to Western New York sooner than expected. 
The state Senate passed a bill yesterday to speed up the process and implement ride-hailing apps like Uber and Lyft for Upstate New Yorkers before the Fourth of July. 
The Assembly now has to vote on it.
